Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Little changes can add up. As part of my interview with Authority Magazine and Thrive Global, I shared my top tweaks that can make a difference in your well-being. This is my list. What would you add?

  • Focus on the positive: I know it sounds cliché, but positivity is the most important skill that you can develop. It’s a quick change that you can make that will start your path to wellness. Sometimes you can get so fixated on what didn’t work that you miss the good things in your life. Often, we focus on the negative because we’re unhappy with the progress that we’re making towards a goal. When setting a goal, start a journal and each day write one success, no matter how small. By focusing on these milestones, you can see that all of your hard work is paying off.

  • Connectivity is key: Humans are social beings, and it’s important to learn from and even vent to people who have similar experiences. If you are recovering from trauma, joining a group can help you process your situation and push forward. Find a group to join or check out online communities on Facebook or Reddit. Often this need for connectivity and empathy is why people turn to therapy or Reiki healing to work out their biggest problems. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength.

  • Don’t forget to disconnect: Just like your body, your mind and spirit renew when you are at rest. You might think you need to be in a constant state of action to see results, but so much is revealed when you just sit still and be present. Turn your phone off, meditate, go for a hike.

  • Stay active: When you get your body moving, it helps not only your physical health but your mental health as well. Physical activity causes your body to release serotonin and other hormones. This promotes positive mood changes that help you feel like the best version of yourself.

  • Change what you can, accept what you can’t: Many people turn to healing because they are having problems they can’t control. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we can only change ourselves, and that’s not a bad thing. Focusing on yourself will leave you feeling strong and independent.
