Self-Care During The Holidays

It’s the most sociable time of the year.

Whether you love or hate all his togetherness, it can seriously cut into your self-care time. Make sure you do a check-in with yourself to ensure your needs are being met and that your stress levels are at a manageable level.

It is not possible to live a completely stress-free life, and it can even be useful to some extent. But too much can cause health problems such as anxiety and depression. Making time for self-care and relaxation can help you manage that stress.

Here are some tips I follow when I feel burned out.

  • Take a break from stressful situations. Tune out from what's gnawing at you by catching up on the TV shows you missed, napping in the early afternoon, and reading that book that’s gathering dust on the shelf.

  • Let it go if what is causing you stress is not worth it. Sometimes, you can focus on the things you cannot control and neglect the ones you can handle. If you find yourself micromanaging every aspect of your life and thoughts, learn to let go of what isn't worth your energy.

  • Think about what you have. Making a list of what you are thankful for is a great exercise. The things I'm grateful for are endless: I'm thankful for my life, the love I've found, the air I'm breathing, the new day that dawns, and my ability to share my thoughts with others.
