What Reiki and energy healing are

A calm practice with roots in Japanese tradition.

Reiki is a hands-on, or hands-near-body, energy practice with roots in Japanese tradition. During a session, you rest comfortably while gentle touch or near-touch is used to support your natural sense of balance and calm.

Energy healing, more broadly, refers to this same kind of work: supporting the flow and balance of your energy, whether you are drawn to it as a spiritual practice or simply as a deeply restorative wellness experience.

You do not need any prior experience or belief system to receive Reiki. Most people describe it simply as deeply relaxing, a quiet, restorative time that gives the mind and body room to settle.

A note on what Reiki is and is not

Complementary support, with honest boundaries.

Reiki is a complementary practice, not a medical treatment. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any health condition. Some traditional medical institutions offer Reiki as complementary support alongside conventional care, and it works best as part of the full picture of your care. As with any wellness practice, experiences vary.

Cleveland Clinic

Reiki in an integrative-care setting

Cleveland Clinic describes Reiki as a complementary practice and emphasizes that it should not replace conventional treatment.

A careful view of the evidence

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes Reiki as a complementary health approach while noting that effectiveness has not been clearly demonstrated for health-related purposes.
